The Telfers were immigrants from a town called Armadale on the Isle of Skye on the west coast of Scotland. The Family founded the Telfer Biscuit Company in 1856 on Hurontario Street. This was Collingwood’s first family owned business which was subsequently run by their 2 sons James and Herbert. The sons went on to establish the company as a competitor to Christies biscuit company in Toronto
