“Madeline’s Cottage” is our guest house located on Opal Cliff Drive in the best beach-side micro-climate in Santa Cruz County. We have the best beach weather and the quietest beach location in town! The cottage is set well off the street just a few doors from gated “Privates” beach (you’ll have use of a gate key during your stay). From here you can hear the waves crash and the seagulls call, and walk or bike to many local attractions: A five minute walk one direction will take you to the dining and night life of charming Capitola Village, five minutes the other direction leads you to the world-famous surfing area of Pleasure Point. Madeline’s Cottage neighborhood offers access to entertainment for every interest. Maybe you don’t feel like venturing out- or you have little ones and need to stay a bit closer to home? The cottage enjoys use and views of our 1/3 acre garden and yard. More About the Property: Opal Cliffs is the best neighborhood in town, but maybe you'd like to get out of the immediate neighborhood? The more urban cultural attractions of downtown Santa Cruz are 15 minutes away. Say you don’t like that 'Downtown' kind of culture? The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and its Giant Dipper roller coaster are also 15 minutes away. The Boardwalk is a quintessential seaside amusement park in a style circa about 1965. Our kitchen/dining area is light, bright, and roomy, and separate from the family room where the TV is located. The Garden Bedroom has a queen bed and large closet, and looks through a big sliding door onto the garden, while the “Kids” bedroom is smaller and has a queen Murphy bed that can be easily raised if you need more floor space. Overall floor space of the cottage is ample for 4. Madeline’s Cottage is located behind our own personal home on our 1/3 acre lot, so you will not feel wedged in amongst a lot of other vacation rentals, and we take pride in making your stay as pleasant as possible. It has a fully equipped kitchen with all utensils and basic spices and condiments, but if you have special needs please let us know. Also, if you have dust allergies and let us know a bit in advance we can remove all soft-surface flooring from the cottage. A note about dogs: We have two Australian Shepard dogs. They are friendly and good with children, and spend some time every day in the very large yard we share with the cottage. You don't have to interact with them any more than you want to- let us know and we will restrict their yard time- but if you'd rather not have any contact with dogs whatsoever this might not be the best place for you. On the other hand, if you are thinking about getting a dog of your own (or are missing the dog you left at home) you'll be extra happy you booked here! We’re looking forward to your visit! APRIL 2018 UPDATE- We've spent the past several months doing an extensive remodel of the cottage. The kitchen and bathroom are 100% new, and the floor plan has changed. If you've stayed with us before, or are reading earlier reviews note that the entrance to the bathroom is no longer off one of the bedrooms as it used to be, but now is situated more conventionally off the general living space. Also, changed: each bedroom now has a queen bed, with the one in the smaller bedroom being a Murphy bed as mentioned above.. We take pride in our place, and we're looking forward to your visit!
